Last month we were disheartened to report nearly all of our nuclear Makah Ozette potato seed for this year’s planting was destroyed, but while clearing his field of our once-frozen seed, our Presidium grower John was able to salvage nearly 500 pounds! We are very pleased to make this seed available for MOP enthusiasts, farmers and school gardeners.

Proceeds from our seed sale will help fund seed donations to Seattle area school and community gardens, and we thank you for your support!

About the Seed.

This organic Makah Ozette potato nuclear seed is grown by our Presidium partner Grand Teton Organics. It’s a prolific fingerling with thin skin, creamy yellowish flesh, and a robust, earthly flavor.

This historic variety is one of the few potatoes imported directly from South America, and wasn't grown outside the Makah Nation until the 1980s. The Makah Tribe graciously permitted Slow Food Seattle to board it onto the Slow Food Ark of Taste, a living catalog of delicious and distinctive foods facing extinction.
