Garden Treasures Local Farm & Nursery: An Arlington Oasis
We are incredibly excited to announce that Garden Treasures Local Farm & Nursery has been awarded our first Snail of Approval for 2025!
Patricia Lovejoy’s 38-acre farm in Arlington is a shining example of sustainable, community-driven agriculture. She not only feeds the community with responsibly grown produce but also actively improves the soil health, protects the environment, and supports the regional food system.
The farm specializes in heritage and heirloom vegetables, including varieties from the Slow Food Ark of Taste. Patricia’s extensive collection of hand-shelled legumes is particularly impressive and includes Mexican heritage beans brought from Oaxaca 30 years ago. She also cultivates sweetgrass and other sacred plants for the Tulalip community’s ceremonial traditions and diabetes program.
The farm stand also offers a variety of products from nearby farms and local producers — fruit, cheese, eggs, jams, honey, and fermented vegetables.
As dedicated land stewards, Patricia and her team make their own compost and carefully manage water use, ensuring that their farm’s proximity to the Stillaguamish River does not contribute to runoff or environmental harm. Mindful farming practices include crop rotation, cover cropping, and grass waterways. Hedgerows between gardens provide habitat for wildlife and natural protection between neighboring plots, while trellised beans double as windbreaks.
Flowers are also an important part of the farm. They attract pollinators and help control pests naturally. Patricia sells beautiful flower arrangements at the farm stand and has recently started teaching other farmers how to grow flowers sustainably, sharing knowledge and resources.
Patricia is also deeply committed to food accessibility and community support. She donates surplus food to local food banks and actively supports SNAP and WIC programs, growing specific crops that reflect the preferences of the program participants.
Congratulations to Patricia and the team at Garden Treasures Local Farm & Nursery for this well-deserved recognition!
