A Butter Place: Because We All Deserve A Butter Place!

We are so excited to award A Butter Place with the 2026 Snail of Approval!

A Butter Place is on a mission to provide high-quality butter, made from Washington cream and flavored with local ingredients for a truly PNW product.

Inspired by his lifelong passion for food and by the flavor experiments of other creators, Adrian Sanders started making compound butters as a creative outlet. But rather than tinkering with store-bought, he was drawn to the process of handmade butter. “If I made these with fresh, handmade butter, I’d really have something!” And he certainly does.

Adrian makes his butter in small batches, using the French artisanal technique of malaxage, pounding down the butter to remove more buttermilk, unlike the commercial use of industrial centrifugal churns. This traditional method creates a uniquely smooth texture, enhances the butter’s flavor and aroma, and extends its shelf life. He also keeps his supply and distribution chain exceptionally short — sourcing his cream from a single local, regenerative farm, and the seasonal ingredients he incorporates from small-scale PNW farms, so the butters are the freshest possible. Regularly collaborating with other local producers, Adrian’s passion is clear — both for creating great flavors, and for knowing where your food comes from.

Altogether, Adrian works hard to honor traditional European techniques, the bounty of the Pacific Northwest, and his own Southern roots and in the process, makes our tables “A Butter Place” to be!

Congratulations to Adrian and A Butter Place on this well-deserved recognition!
